Michael JacksonThis might be it for those reports of a feature film adaptation of Michael Jackson's "Thriller," boys and girls, as the proposed director himself says that talk of the movie is premature at best.

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, "High School Musical" and "This Is It" director Kenny Ortega said that he hasn't given the reported "Thriller" adaptation too much thought just yet. Indeed, the very fact that the project has been mentioned publicly is a bit early, according to Ortega.

"It got put out there before I've even really had a chance to think about it too much," he said. "It’s still in very, very early stages of development."

"The [Michael Jackson] estate would have to sign off on it," he continued. "I have been a part of some early creative meetings and if all goes well, I think it could happen in the next couple of years."

Adapting "Thriller" is a daunting prospect, to say the least, considering how critically and commercially successful Jackson’s beloved music video was and is. But Ortega said he’s not frightened by the idea of directing a "Thriller" film, largely due to words of encouragement from Jackson himself.

"Michael used to say to me that there is nothing to be afraid of and fear just gets in the way anyway," he said. "We were very good friends. I miss him. And I would never do anything to ruin his memory or one of his creations. But like I said, it is so early, so who knows what will materialize?"
